NCAA AST Editor - Discussion Thread

Postby StingRay68 » Sun Sep 27, 2020 11:34 am

Editor is attached in this post:

I am not discussing this editor outside of this thread.
I am not currently developing this editor, it was done as a favor for the modders developing the College Football Revamped mod for NCAA 14.
I am not discussing the installation or usage of the RPCS3 emulator, nor any installation or editing utilities for the various Playstation or XBOX consoles.

Please READ the ReadMe.txt file inside the zip archive and/or the wall of text that was posted in the above thread.

If you are going to post asking for help or bug reports, do not expect a prompt response due to my own time restraints and the above mentioned reasons.

Thanks for sharing this, great tool.

Is there any presumed license associated with this application? Would a user be permitted to make modifications to it and share with the community?

I usually go with GNU public license, but I did not attach that license to this util as this was kind of a work in progress.
So feel free to make changes and release to the community, but I have not released any source code for this as of yet.

I would like to open ast files in this editor from cmd. In this way, I would be able to open multiple files from a bat file to look at its contents much faster. The situation is that I cannot make this editor to open an ast file from cmd. NCAA AST Editor - Discussion Thread (3)

Suppose I am in the folder where I have this editor in my computer and want to open File00015.ast that is in the same folder. Then, I star a cmd window form that folder and typing this in cmd:

Code: Select all

"NCAA AST Editor.exe" File00015.ast

The editor starts but that file is never opens in the editor. To open it, I need to go to File->Load ast file inside the editor, of course.
What I need to do to open NCAA 14 ast with this editor files from cmd?

So when I go to download your link says its 1.0265 but when i open the ast editor from that link it shows its still 1.0263 instead. Is that a typo on what version the current version is on the download link or is the updated AST editor just not in that link by mistake?

I was working with the file qkl_misc.ast. As usual, it contains lots of files including nested .ast files. I have extracted a few files from it. One of those files is File00458.ast that is entirely formed by .ast files. Then, I have extracted a few of those files, in particular, File00090.ast which contains mostly .dds files and a few .apt and .dat files. After editing it, I repack it with the editor. No issues until this point.

However, after repacking File00090.ast to File00458.ast, all file contents in the latter seem to become .dat files. The left hand side in the attached image is the stock File00458.ast. In the right hand side its mod after just replacing File00090.ast and reopening it in the editor.

Checking it in an hex editor, I found big differences with respect to the stock file, File00458-stock.ast. For example, no more BFGA magic words in the edited file and the file size is totally different. Same outcome even repacking an untouched File00090.ast.

It is the first time I experience this kind of issue even working with nested .ast files as in this case. The stock File00458.ast is also in the attachment, if you want to check it yourself.
What could be the problem?

You need to provide a lot more info when you're asking about a specific problem.
No idea what game this is from and Im not looking through the ast to try and guess.
File 90 is an APT based file and those are problematic depending on what and how you are editing them (you did not specify)
This may be a case where what you are wanting to do is just not going to work based on the limitations of the editor at the time.
