Finally, Joe Hart has also chosen who he would like in his starting England XI: "If he is picked, then Marc Guehi will be ready, I have nodoubt about that. Gareth Southgate trusts him for a reason.

"The biggest call is who comes into midfield with DeclanRice and Jude Bellingham - I am going to go with Trent Alexander-Arnold inthere."

My name is Chris Gauld. My friend Neil Gannon drove us seven hours from Geneva after we flew over from Edinburgh yesterday. We’re staying in the same hotel as the Germany team but forgot to set off the fire alarm at 3am. Going to the game tonight and can’t wait!

  3. Rio Ferdinand's England starting XIpublished at 16:51 14 June

    16:51 14 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    Rio Ferdinand
    Former England defender

Rio Ferdinand has gone for a change of formation in his England starting XI for Sunday's opener against Serbia: "Iwould go three at the back when we have the ball with [Kyle] Walker, [Marc] Guehi and [Kieran] Trippier. In front of that, [John] Stones and [Declan] Rice as two pivots, then [Jude] Bellingham and [Phil] Foden in front. Then [Bukayo] Saka right and [Anthony] Gordon left. With [Harry] Kane up front.

"When out of possession, Stones will slot back and it becomes a backfour, with Walker moving to right back. Declan Rice will be the defensivemidfielder. Jude Bellingham will be the 8 and drop a bit with Foden in a three. Then the two wingers and Kane.

"I've gone for Gordon because he gives us the legs to run in behind.Kane comes back for the ball, Saka wants to come for the ball and dribble,Foden would rather come to the ball so I need someone who can run behind, giveus a threat and push Serbia back. Gordon would do that.

"Also I would make sure Kane stays high as he can and Bellinghamjoins. He has been great doing that for Real Madrid, play high and run behindthe striker. That team wins the Euros!"

We aren't all fortunate enough to be in Germany for the Euros but that doesn't mean we can't fully embrace all the atmosphere and festivities from the comfort of your own home or anywhere else in the UK.

Don't worry, we've got all the info you need, so you don't miss a thing.

BBC and ITV will share broadcasting coverage of Euro 2024 in the UK, following the pattern that was in place for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and previous European Championships.

For example, the BBC will show England's first two group games and ITV will broadcast the opening match between Germany and Scotland tonight.

Scotland's other Group A matches - against Switzerland and Hungary - will be shown on the BBC.

  5. Rooney's starting England XIpublished at 16:43 14 June

    16:43 14 June

    Serbia v England (20:00 BST)

Jumping further ahead to England's opener on Sunday against Serbia, Wayne Rooney has told Gary Neville on The Overlap who he would have in his starting XI: "I think just for form in the league I'd play Marc Guehi but I'd be worried.

"I'm so surprised Branthwaite is not there. Obviously with [Kieran] Trippier being right-footed as well, I think Branthwaite would've given so much balance.

On Kieran Tripper: "'It is [a guarantee that he'll start] He's had injuries as well but he's been poor. I thought the other night against Iceland he was poor again. He has to play but he hasn't been playing well for Newcastle"

On Newcastle's Anthony Gordon playing on the left: "He's [Gordon] the one player who will hold the width and make it difficult.

"[Cole] Palmer could play there but their biggest strengths are coming inside. He's [Gordon] the one player who will hold the width and make it difficult."

A little earlier, outside the fan park at Munich’s Olympiapark, I met Colin and Mary McFarlane from Edinburgh.

Colin thinks tonight’s game willend 1-1, but he wasn’t too hopeful for Scotland’s overall prospects.

“Will we win the Euros?” Iasked.

    “No - to be honest!”

    Oh well.

"We've had a little taste of it already at our base in. I'm sure there will be a few around in Munich tonight that we won't see. We hope they will enjoy themselves and behave themselves."

As England build up to their opening game of Euro 2024, just a reminder that Tommy Banks, believed to have been the Three Lions' oldest living former international, died on Thursday at the age of 94.

Banks, who won six caps, made his international debut for the Three Lions against the Soviet Union in Moscow in May 1958.

He was also part of Walter Winterbottom's squad for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

Banks played 255 times for Bolton Wanderers in his club career and he played at left-back in the team that beat Manchester United 2-0 in the 1958 FA Cup final.

Bolton said in a statement on the club’s website, external: "The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Bolton Wanderers are with Tommy's family and friends.

"As a mark of respect, the club will lower the flags outside the Toughsheet Community Stadium to half-mast from tomorrow morning (Friday, 14 June). Arrangements for Tommy’s funeral will be communicated in due course."

  10. Changeable Euros forecast - but staying dry tonightpublished at 16:29 14 June

    16:29 14 June

    BBC Weather

It is likely to stay dry for Germany v Scotland tonight, with temperatures of 17C for the 20:00 BST kick-off. But what does the weather have in store for fans and players during the rest of the tournament?

The weather this weekend and for the first half of next week will be dominated by an area of low pressure over the UK - no change there, then.

For Germany this will bring some heavy and thundery showers and a few longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be a little below average, with highs into the low 20s - comfortable conditions for the players.

Supporters would be advised to pack some warm layers, though, and prepare for some cool evenings.

High pressure will bring some drier and warmer weather for the second half of next week, with maximum temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s. It will feel quite hot.

This fine weather isn't set to last though, with thundery showers and a few longer spells of rain returning for the second week of the tournament. Temperatures will likely be close to or a little above average, so it will feel warm in any sunshine.

Alan Shearer on Rest is Football podcast: "I’mplaying Phil Foden just in front of Bellingham and [Declan] Rice, he has to bein that position because he affects the game so much.

"He wants to get on theball, he’s brilliant on the ball and he’s got better and better this season. He’s been absolutely magnificent and I really hope he plays in that 10 positionrather than on the left-hand side because that’s his best position."

    Micah Richards

Micah Richards on the Rest is Football podcast: "It's a balanced team with a mixof experienced players and a few younger, in-form guys. The back four lookssolid with a good balance between Stones and Guehi in front of Pickford. Ricewill protect the back four just in front and dictate the game.

"Then we have the two stars ofthe team, in Bellingham and Foden, who will be key if England are to do well.Foden will be the creative outlet, playing central rather than off the left soconstantly involved.

"We have fantastic options at thetop end of the pitch and I would have Cole Palmer to come into the side after anoutstanding first season at Chelsea. We also have England's two-time player of the year Sakaand then of course Harry Kane, England's captain and all-time leading goal scorer."

    16:16 14 June

"ColePalmer is a wonderful talent," said Gary Lineker on the Rest is Football podcast. "He could play as a No 10, we’ve seen him on theright but not really seen him on the left.

"I was tempted to put him on theleft-hand side of the England team and, if you want to just keep rotating, youcould do that. But actually, I’m going with Anthony Gordon on the left."

  15. 'Everyone's goal is to lift that trophy'published at 16:08 14 June

    16:08 14 June

Serbia v England (Sun, 20:00 BST)

    England

We heard from Jordan Pickford earlier, here is the England goalkeeper's final message to the fans before Sunday's opening match of their campaign against Serbia: "That's our goal [to bring football home]. The most important thing for us is to win the first game, get out of the group, game by game focus as it comes, you can't look too far ahead, everyone's goal is to lift that trophy and it takes a hell of a lot of hard work to get there.

"There would be nothing more proud than for me to lift the trophy and to bring it home for the fans but there's so much hard work to be done first and you can't look too far ahead. I know all the England fans will be rooting for us, they are passionate, everywhere in the country will be rooting for us and they'll be having a good few days on the booze so that'll be good."

Delayed flight from Paris to London means I’ll be running like a maniac through Heathrow to make my onward flight to Aberdeen, before bullying my way to the taxi rank and have the driver do all he or she can to get me to the pub in time for kick-off. If I make it, that’ll be the second biggest achievement of the night… after Scotland do the business in Munich! C’mon lads!

There's nothing quite as good as that feeling at the start of an international football tournament, is there? As a Wales fan, it's a shame Y Wal Goch (the Red Wall) aren't there, but I'm getting behind Scotland for a win and predicting they get out of their group - enjoy that German beer, Tartan Army!
