Prosecutors have argued that the killer pair were motivated by their lust for "money, sex, and power."

They went on to reveal how the couple would categorize spirits as light and dark as part of their religious beliefs.

Anyone they thought had a "dark" spirit would often be referred to as "demons" or "zombies" who would need to be killed to be defeated.

'BITTERSWEET'

Many of those close to the victims spoke out during the witness impact statements.

Kay Woodco*ck, JJ Vallow's grandmother, called the sentencing "bittersweet."

"I sit here today, trying to explain the immense pain that me and everyone in my family continues to endure daily.

"I continually wonder what he would have been. What kind of man would he have become," Woodco*ck said of JJ, whom she remembered as a "caring and loving boy."

She also explained that Tylee was very close with her mother, even calling her a "Mama's girl."

"This is our life now, trying to comfort our other grandchildren as they try to comfort us," the grandmother added.

"There is a hole in my heart and in the hearts of every member of my family, that cannot be filled and will remain for the rest of my life."

Vallow's only surviving son, Colby Ryan, also openly mourned the loss of his two siblings.

"I lost the ability to watch Tylee and JJ grow up," Ryan said.

"I lost my relationship with my little brother, which took years to build. I lost everything I've ever known.

"I lost the ability to share my children with them or have my children have the privilege to know them and be loved by them.

"My three kids will never know the kindness of Tylee's heart. Or JJ's silly, goofy personality. More importantly, Tylee and JJ lost their lives."

Ryan said the death of his siblings felt like "a nuclear bomb dropping."

"JJ will never get to grow up and share a wonderful, kind personality with the world, and everyone who has lost him feels this way.

"I stand here today, motherless, fatherless, sisterless, and brotherless. The only course forward is to trust in Christ, knowing that he has them in his arms, and wait for the day that we all meet again."

Samantha Gwilliam, Tammy Daybell's sister, revealed the shock and horror it caused her as well.

"She is dead, and others who were supposed to stand up for her, protect her, and love her did not," Gwilliam said through tears.

"From the moment I found out she was gone, I have never felt peace.

"She loved being a mom, and especially a grandma. She was so excited to be a part of our lives. She was intent and happy.

"My last visit I had with Tammy is the last time I have felt any peace. I would not be a good sister if I did not defend Tammy as well."

Gwilliam continued, "I am not a dark person or a zombie, and for me and my family to be portrayed this way is unacceptable.

"My sister should not be dead right now."

IT'S REALLY IRONIC

Following Daybell receiving the death penalty, Kresha Easton, JJ Vallow's aunt, spoke to The U.S. Sun exclusively about the verdict.

She revealed that she was just relieved that regardless of the circ*mstances Daybell was going to be put away for life.

"The thought of him never being able to enjoy a home-cooked meal from his wife, never being able to hold his and Tammy's grandbabies is enough for me.

"He can never be a menace to society again, and I don't have to be worried about that, and I don't have to worry about my children being fearful of him or Lori again.

"I wouldn't be able to live in peace unless they were locked away, but the death penalty was just an extra thing that prosecutors clearly felt compelled to pursue."

However, she admitted that she did take pleasure in the poetic irony of Chad's situation.

As she saw it, the man who had decided that her nephew deserved death, ultimately had his life in the hands of a jury, who ultimately decided that what he did was worthy of death.

"It really is ironic," said Kresha.

"We learned in great detail, unfortunately, about how they dehumanized every single one of their victims, how they marked them light or dark, and how they decided who was going to live or die.

"One of the people they'd marked dark was my mom. They'd given her the spirit name Rhonda, but thankfully, they never got to her.

"I don't think Chad and Lori were ever going to stop until all of us were gone, I really don't.

"The irony is, they were the zombies all along. End of story."
